Today we are delighted to have the opportunity to share with you a fascinating artist interview with another amazing artist we had the chance to talk to.
Iness Kaplun is a popular New York pop-art artist. Her artworks have spread all over the world and now delight many private collections of art connoisseurs in America, Britain, Italy, Germany, and Russia.
Iness works in a unique collage technique, combining magazine and newspaper clippings with painting and drawing techniques. Her works are striking in their brightness, eroticism, light grotesque and gothic tones. The leitmotif of femininity and emancipation is one of the key in her works. According to Iness, the art that she creates is a transformation of her life experience and worldview, compiled on canvas.
As in most artist interviews, our conversation began with a question about the influence of the environment on the development of an artist:
What was the strongest influence you had when you were growing up ( artists, movies, cartoons, comics etc.. ) ?
The strongest influence came from my family. I’m an artist in third generation.
My passion for art and painting began at home as a child when my grandfather, himself an artist, painter and decorator, first handed me his brush.
A must-have item from the list of artist interview questions is advice for novice artists.
What is your advice for a beginner artist?
An artist has to understand why he/she paints. What’s the main idea of art making. Put your thoughts in art.
Is there something that you have designed that you are most proud of?
I do love my biggest artwork “Fabulous Imperfection” it’s a portrait of Marilyn Monroe. This painting is 72x48” , this mixed media/collage painting made of original photos and articles about Marilyn Monroe... some sad and reviling moments of her life story. This Art work made in a provocative manner. Very modern and pop. I painted Marilyn Monroe hair in pink color to add visual meaning to her personality. Because pink color associated with charm, sensitivity, tenderness, sweetness, femininity and romance. I think pink color perfectly demonstrates entire qualities of this talented American actress, model, and singer.
Continue the phrase: I would never draw…
a super realistic portrait. I want to add symbolism in art.. message for the viewers.
Among our questions for artists, there are those that make one think and require some ingenuity.

Do you have other hobbies besides drawing?
Yes, I do. Cooking is my hobby. I love to try new cuisine and prepare new recipes I think Cooking and art are very similar. It requires knowledge, concentration and ability to improvise ...it brings so much joy and satisfaction. If I’m not painting, I’m cooking ... I just love spending time cooking, planing to cook and meet my family and friends by the table.
Continuing to ask questions about art, we are sure to be interested in further creative plans and daring:
WHAT IS YOUR CRAZIEST idea FOR YOUR DREAM work or JOB
My craziest dream is to come up with a new art technique and create a new art style ... I work in Pop Art ... but all my artworks have a feminine touch, they are all about women... women’s feelings.. they all have a slightly sexual hint. That’s why I named my style Feminine Pop Art.
Tell me how many brushers(markers, works) you have in your house?
I’d say a few hundreds. I have an art studio where I teach paintings to children and adults. So I’m very loaded with art supplies.
What are the trickiest questions to ask artists? Of course, about stealing credit for masterpieces of art.
If you could steal credit for any great piece of art, song, film, book etc which one would you claim?
* That’s a very interesting question... I will not be a very unique in my answer by saying Mona Lisa is absolutely my favorite piece of art. It is the most known, the most visited and of course the most parodied work of art in the world.
* I am as many other artists painted my pop art version, I named it “Mina’s Secret”. I do really admire that fact that Leonardo da Vinci invented a painting technique Sfumato. It’s a soft transition between colors that gives this magical effect. If I only could steal 1 % credit for this outstanding creation.
What is your favourite Artistro markers or maybe color
Since I use markers for sketching and outlining my favorite Artistro markers are Multi Surface Paint Pens. It’s an absolutely amazing product. This product helps me to reach the perfect result.
