"My whole philosophy of Barbie was that, through the doll, the little girl could be anything she wanted to be. Barbie always represented the fact that a woman has choices"
— Ruth Handler, Barbie™ Creator
Do you know that the first Barbie doll was made in 1959?😲
She was named after Ruth's daughter Barbara. Barbie's full name is Barbie Millicent Roberts.
Barbie’s appearance was modeled after a German doll called the Bild Lili that was originally marketed as a racy gag gift that men could buy in tobacco shops.
